Election politics: N-League’s Adil Bakhsh Chattha joins PML-Q

Awarded party ticket for PP-103 Alipur Chatha.

Chaudhry Adil Bakhsh Chattha has defected from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and joined the rival PML-Quaid, for whom he will stand for election from PP-103, said a press release.


Chattha is a former PML-N ticket holder and son of former MPA Haji Shaukat Hayat Chattha. He called on PML-Q leader and Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at his residence here on Tuesday and announced his decision.

According to a press release, Elahi announced that Sajid Chattha would stand for election at NA-101 and Adil Chattha from PP-103 as the PML-Q’s candidates. He said the joint candidates of the PML-Q and Pakistan Peoples Party would wipe out the N-League. Adil Chattha said that he had opposed Hamid Nasir Chattha since 1997 and would continue to do so. He said he would work with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Elahi to strengthen the party in Gujranwala district.

Others joining the PML-Q on the occasion were Mian Muhammad Iqbal, Sardar Muhammad Afzal, Arshad Mahmud Bhatti, Irshadullah Warraich, Tariq Mughul, Malik Asif, AR Adil, Mirza Alim Razi, Khurrum Bhinder, Rana Nasir, Liaquat Khokhar, Ali Mahmood, Mohsin Khokhar, Muhammad Akmal, Rana Ashar Akmal, Rizwan Aslam, Khadim Asadi, Malik Farasat, Malik Muhammad Aslam, Babar Rizwan Cheema and Usman Cheema.
