Pakistan’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom has said that if any of the Pakistani players are found guilty of match fixing, they should be ‘banished’ from cricket.
According to a Guardian report, Wajid Shamsul Hasan has said that if any of the allegations against the three players proved to be true, they should be dealt with severely.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live’s Sportsweek programme, he said that the ICC was the proper authority of taking action against the players, but if found guilty the players should be tried in a court of law, adding that proper sentences should be handed down in order to make an example and discourage match fixing activities.
The statement comes after the High Commissioner said that the players were ‘innocent until proven guilty’ and that he believed they were innocent. The High Commissioner also called the decision to suspend the players ‘unhelpful and premature.’
Pakistan mounted a covert diplomatic offensive on August 3, over the mistreatment of its cricketing stars as Scotland Yard investigators quizzed Test captain Salman Butt and pacemen Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir in connection with spot-fixing charges.
Diplomatic sources in Islamabad and London told The Express Tribune that Pakistan had conveyed its strong reservations to the British government for blowing the issue out of proportion. “The high commissioner in London met the British government officials to record our protest,” a Foreign Office official disclosed while requesting anonymity.

Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan: “Your foot is in your mouth!” This is what happens when you make wrong statements.Recommend
Shams ul Hassan has utterly failed to handle the matter confidently and realistically. His body language does not testify his words.
And the PCB mafia don seems to have gone into hiding to avoid international media. Be a man of courage Mr. Ejaz Butt. Don’t take shelter behind Shams ul Hassan whose past is also not clean of accusations, misdoings, misdeeds, misdemeanor and corruption in Benazir’s tenure as P.M.
Where is Waseem Bari at these hard times? And why has the whole burden been put on the shoulders of Pak High Commissioner?
In spite of the first episode of accusations and videos, why was Yasir Hamid let to go out alone to make a deal with the impostor reporters? As Shams ul Hassan announced that Mazhar Majeed took care of the sponsorship matters of the players, then why didn’t he accompany Yasir Hameed with his deceived negotiation with the so called representatives of some airlines?
These question need to be answered by someone from PCB and Pak High Commission.Recommend
If found guilty then who ever is involved must be punished according to the law. I would further suggest to bring in a new set up and if one even has to beg Mr. Imran Khan it won.t be a bad choice. Hand over all sports activities to Imran Khan with full authority to appoint and remove any person which he deems necessary. I know he is only interested for PM ship but there is no harm in requesting him to take over this ministry for life time. I am sure if he accepts this with full authority the coming generation will always remember him just as people still don’t forget Air Marshal Noor Khan (late) for the services he rendered to sports. There is a need for a very big change in all sectors of sports.Recommend
I regret that such a scandal came out from the Pakistani Cricketers. There must be some thing at the bottom which came out now.
The government should probe at length when the players return to Pakistan to know what is the truth?
The story of Pakistani Cricketers whether false or true has been covered all around the globe by the media which has given a bad name to the country as well as to the nation.
I wonder when Pakistani Cricket players will go next to play a cricket match in any other country, some people among the crowd may hold banners in their hands which would read as “Match Fixers”.Recommend
Wajid Shamsul Hasan has so far played a commendable role in dealing with the issue. He is right that the courts are there. If the police are successful in proving the players culprits (in light of the evidences and proofs collected), the players should be punished.Recommend
