KARACHI: The Inter-Services Public Relations dispelled media reports on Sunday that the Sindh government had called in the army to look after the law and order situation during Muharram. ISPR Karachi spokesperson told The Express Tribune that Rangers and police are enough to control the situation. “We have received no verbal or formal request so far. The army will follow proper procedure in taking control of the city, only after it receives a formal request,” he explained. Government officials, during a meeting held at the Governor House late on Saturday, reviewed security challenges during Muharram and reportedly decided to put the army on standby. There were also reports that army commandos had conducted minor drills in sensitive areas of the city, including Katti Pahari, Orangi Town, SITE and Baldia Town. IG Police Fayyaz Leghari had also announced army may be summoned during Muharram.
