A World Health Organisation (WHO) team and Rawalpindi city government officials on Thursday reviewed the anti-polio campaign and underlined the need for keeping a vigilant eye on high risk areas, said a press release.

City government officials informed the WHO team that mobile teams had been constituted to administer polio drops to the infants coming to Rawalpindi from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Azad Kashmir.

“Strict monitoring of the mobile and other teams are carried out to ensure vaccination of the children from birth to five years of age,” said District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi, Saqib Zafar.

“That is why the district has been declared polio free for the last two years,” he added, assuring the WHO team that the vaccine given by the donor agency will be properly used.

The delegation, headed by WHO Punjab head Dr Wendy, praised the efforts of the city government in making the anti-polio campaign a success. He said that WHO will continue its cooperation with them in this regard to keep the district polio free.

The DCO informed the team that during the campaign throughout the year and in those union councils where local languages are used other than Punjabi their local persons always involved to help the mobile teams to vaccinate children living in those areas.

He added that they regularly hold meetings to review the campaign, which is continued every three to four months.
