KARACHI: The Hindu community will be celebrating the festival of lights, Diwali, today. The important religious festival commemorates the return of Lord Ram along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman from his 14-year-old exile from Ayodhya. It also marks Ram’s victory over the evil Raavan. On this five-day festival, people celebrate by lighting earthen lamps and making colourful rangoli (patterns) on their doorsteps, while children participate in a fireworks display. In Karachi, the main festivities will be held at the Swami Narayan temple near the city courts, where the main ‘pooja’ congregation will kick off after sunset.
