Protesters tear-gassed and arrested

Five people were killed in separate incidents, two bodies found.

A protest against the killings of members of the Shia community turned violent when the protesters set ablaze a bus and car here on Friday.

The rally, organised by the Pasban-e-Aaza, set out from Numaish Chowrangi towards Governor House, but the police intervened once it reached MA Jinnah Road. As the protesters turned violent, the police resorted to tear gas shelling and aerial firing in order to get them to disburse. Eight people were also arrested but were later released.


Meanwhile, another man from the Shia community, Saeed Haider Zaidi, 36, was gunned down when unknown assailants opened fire in Karimabad, said the Joharabad police. The police said he was a member of the Darul Saqlain. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. In another incident, thirty-year-old Niaz Ahmed was killed when two unidentified men riding on a motorcycle shot at his car near the railway tracks in Keamari Town, said the Docks police. They added that Niaz was a contractor and was not affiliated with any political party. The body was taken to Civil Hospital. The police said that an FIR was registered against the assailants by his brother, Nazir.

Separately, Shahid, 32, was gunned down near New Muzafarabad Colony in Quaidabad. The police said that his brother registered an FIR against unknown assailants.

In a separate incident, 35-year-old Nazir was shot dead near Miran Naka, according to the Sher Shah police. The body was taken to Civil Hospital.  In another shooting, 33-year-old Anwar Hussain was killed when unidentified men opened fire on him in Kehkashan Society in the limits of Sachal police station. The police said that Hussain, a resident of Rashid Colony in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, had several cases registered against him.

Meanwhile, the police found the body of 55-year-old Saeed Ahmed near Bismillah Chowk in the limits of Mochiko police station. Another body of a man, identified as Saeed, was found in a ground near Indus Plaza, according to the Sohrab Goth police.
