ISLAMABAD:

The National Language Authority’s advisory board has sought the restoration of the authority’s autonomous status and demanded its legal security through an act of parliament.

Addressing a board meeting on Wednesday, Minister for National Heritage and Integration Samina Khalid Ghurki directed her office to
take steps in this regard.

She said a proposal has been forwarded to the cabinet, adding that the autonomous status will allow the authority to work for the promotion of the national language.

“The restoration of NLA will free it from influence of ministers and other governmental and bureaucratic glitches.”
