The CDA has sought help from businessmen and traders in making the city clean and green.

“All available resources would be used to develop Islamabad as a clean, green and environment-friendly city,” said Dr Kazim Niaz, member of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) environment directorate.

He was visiting the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) to discuss development plans with them and seek support for the authority’s “Go Green” campaign, said a press release issued by the ICCI here on Wednesday.

The drive, Dr Niaz said, aims at encouraging and involving students from different schools to inculcate love and care for trees among them. He also informed ICCI team about developing another recreational spots at Trail-5 in Margalla Hills.

He said that CDA and ICCI would make a committee on permanent basis to look after the environment and CDA would provide technical assistance to bring uniformity in horticulture in the streets.

ICCI President Zafar Bakhtawari said there is greater need to involve school children in tree plantation campaign. He proposed that F-8 be developed as a model sector.

The ICCI president said that the total estimated generation of solid waste in Islamabad is 600-700 tons per day and there is still no permanent site to dump the city’s garbage. He proposed to establish proper treatment plants for converting these wastes into biofuel, to help alleviate the country’s current energy crisis.
