GHALLANAI: A paramilitary official was injured when a suicide bomber detonated in the Ekkaghund Bazaar of Mohmand Agency on Monday.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Assistant Political Agent of Mohmand Lower subdivision, Fahad Wazir, said that an intelligence agency official had informed Levies personnel of a suspect sitting inside a PCO in the market. The Levies personnel reached the crowded marketplace, cordoned off the area and vacated civilians within minutes.

Wazir said that around 10:30am a Levies personnel named Javaid went near the PCO and asked the suspect to step out for a body search.

A man in his mid-20s came out of the shop and started walking towards Javaid despite being asked to stop and show his vest.

“He detonated his explosive-laden vest and turned into pieces of flesh,” said Wazir, adding that Javaid was injured in the explosion and was rushed to a hospital in Peshawar.

He further added that the market, educational institutes and other organisations in the area were shut down after the incident.
