ISLAMABAD:

The foreign ministry cites escalating global inflation as the reason for high rental bills.

The rental rates of buildings are usually determined by the concerned mission’s staff after confirming the price in open markets, Foreign Office spokesperson Moazzam Ali Khan told The Express Tribune.

He said the ministry’s audit wing conducts monthly audits of the accounts of its missions abroad, adding that the assessments are reviewed by the Public Accounts Committee and auditor general of Pakistan.

“The mechanism for renting out buildings for foreign missions is totally fair. Auditors closely scrutinise the finance departments of these missions,” he said.
