Dual nationality case: Malik given 28 days to hire lawyer

Malik asked district and sessions judge for more time to hire a lawyer.

KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik told the district and sessions judge, South, Ahmed Saba, that he should be given more time to hire a lawyer. He stated that he had been abroad and had come back to Pakistan only a few days back. The judge gave Malik till November 29 to hire a lawyer. On the directive of the apex court, the regional election commissioner of Karachi filed complaints against Malik, the Pakistan Peoples Party leader, Farahnaz Ispahani and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s, Nadia Gabol, for filing false declarations, along with their nomination papers for elections. Ispahani’s lawyer requested the court to adjourn the hearing as his client was ill and could not appear in court. The judge directed her lawyer to make sure she appeared in the next hearing and also directed the regional election commissioner, Tanveer Zaki, to submit verified copies of the Supreme Court’s order in the court.
