KARACHI: Despite all the hoopla, Kookaburra balls will not be used any time soon in the ongoing President’s Trophy as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has not received its purchase order yet.

Several players had complained over the quality of balls being currently used in the domestic tournament before the PCB approved its usage. However, the decision is yet to be implemented.

“We’ve given our order and it will take some time to get Kookaburra balls in bulk quantity,” a PCB official told The Express Tribune.

The decision to use Kookaburra balls was taken in the PCB’s Executive Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting held on October 19 which was chaired by the board’s chairman Zaka Ashraf.

The Express Tribune has learnt that several departments are hesitant to use the new variety as they feel they would struggle to adapt with the tournament ongoing.

Meanwhile, the PCB official said that that the board is aware of the fact that teams will be hesitant to use these balls as they cost nearly Rs10,000 per ball and at least five balls are used for a match.

“The PCB is aware of the financial issues. Teams will be given time to arrange finances before we start using these balls,” he stated. “Kookaburra have a high percentage of wear and tear which is why more balls will be used but people need to understand that this change will help in improving our domestic cricket.”
