LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) continued their strike in protest against the murder of senior lawyer Shakir Ali Rizvi on Saturday.

Advocate Rizvi, a senior lawyer and respected member of the Shia community, was gunned down on his way to the Lahore High Court on Friday.

The bar associations went on strike after the murder, demanding the arrest of the killers. They said that the government must improve law and order as no one in the country was safe.

Rizvi was on his way to the LHC from his office at Jain Mandir when two gunmen on a 125cc motorcycle opened fire on his car in the Lytton Road police area. He was critically injured and died on the way to Ganga Ram Hospital. His attackers escaped. A case has been registered under Sections 302 (murder) and 34 (conspiracy) on the complaint of Syed Naeem Abbas Rizvi, the lawyer’s nephew, who was with him in the car at the time of the attack.
