In these trying times when Pakistan has a negative image globally, curator Sasheen Abbasi has taken up the job to introduce the diverse artistic heritage of Pakistan and present the beauty and positive aspects of the nation.
The curator, who has held several exhibitions at the Pakistan High Commission in London along with curating artwork for charity auctions, has brought together the works of artists from different countries to broaden and challenge the narrow views related to the country in an exhibition, Different Faces of Pakistan.
A survey of Contemporary Pakistani Art curated by Abbasi along with the likes of Khusro Subzwari, Farrukh Shahab, Inam Raja, Dr Wasif Ali and Tassadux Sohail cover a variety of themes and media, from the dreamy and abstract to the stark and Cubist.
“The works on show demonstrate the creativity, courage and conviction of artists living through some of the most trying times the nation has witnessed over the past few decades,” says Abbasi.
She further adds, “They depict the real face of Pakistan, so often neglected in sensationalist international news and instead showcase the beauty, sensitivity and remarkable grit of the Pakistani people.”
The exhibition is entitled to be held at Asia House, London, which is a leading pan-Asian organisation in UK that aims to build dynamic links with Asia by providing unique insights into culture, policy, business and education.
Abbasi and Asia House have joined hands with CARE, a charity dedicated to educating underprivileged children in Pakistan, and will donate a percentage of sales from the exhibition to the charity.
The exhibition will start from October 29 and will carry on till December 8, 2012.
