PESHAWAR:

After the chaos witnessed on September 21, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) has asked authorities to take surety bonds from political and religious parties before they organise protests.

The step has been taken to protect government and public properties and to hold demonstrators responsible for any damage caused.

PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan made these remarks while hearing bail requests for six men suspected to be involved in looting and damaging public property on Yaum-e-Ishq-e-Rasool (pbuh) on September 21 in the provincial capital.  Naeemullah, Asad, Muhammad Yousaf, Habibur Rehman, Feroz and Lakhkat had been arrested by the Peshawar police from different areas of the provincial capital. They are accused for damaging property, looting shops and banks, and firing at police officials.

CJ Khan accepted the bail application after giving a warning that if the accused are found involved in the said activities again, bail orders will be withdrawn and action will be taken on the cases filed.

At the hearing, CJ Khan also observed that the government should legislate laws to curb such practices.

He further said that routes for protests should be identified and they must have sufficient security arrangements by law enforcement agencies.

In the September protests, more than 200 people were injured and nearly 26 were killed across the country.

interesting idea, its very much against free speech or more precisely free speech at a price, but then again, these hulligans need to be disincentivized to run amok and destroy property willy-nilly!
