HARIPUR:

The case of a taxi driver from Mansehra who went missing two and half years back has finally been solved.

The Haripur Police on Thursday dug out the remains of Muhammad Khurshid, son of Abdul Rasheed, from under a paved street in Naseem Town. The remains were identified by the deceased’s clothes by family members and four accused, police confirmed. The Haripur Police said that five men have been arrested in connection with the murder and have been handed over to the Mansehra police for further investigation.

According to the Hairpur Police, Sub-Inspector Rehm Nawaz Khan, the in-charge of TIP police post, received a tip-off on the case and apprehended Abdul Qayum, his two sons and his younger brother Muhammad Fareed, who is an employee of the Water and Power Development Authority.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that one of their accomplices, an alleged car lifter named Riaz, hired Khurshid, then 24, to take him from Mansehra to Haripur on his taxicab. When they reached Haripur, Riaz held Khurshid at gunpoint and sold him to Fareed and Qayum for Rs23,000. The accused confessed that Zohaib, the elder son of Qayum, shot dead Khurshid using a 30-bore pistol. They then wrapped his body in plastic and dumped it in the back of their house, in a ditch dug to install gas supply lines. They said that after some time, a road was constructed on the area.

The accused also confessed to dismantling the taxicab and selling it to Saeed Gul, an Afghan national who deals in spare parts. Police arrested Gul and handed him, along with the four accused, to the Mansehra police.
