SIALKOT/ MULTAN:

Police on Wednesday arrested four men, two each from Multan and Sialkot, who they said had broken into two homes and help up the families. Five of their accomplices, four in Multan and one in Sialkot, however, managed to flee.

Police said six men broke into Ghulam Hussain’s house near Bismillah Chowk in Shujabad. They said Hussain’s brother saw them and started shouting for help. More than a dozen residents of the area gathered in front of their house and caught two of the men, while the rest fled away. Ghulam Hussain’s family and some neighbours beat the two men for a while till they almost fainted.

Someone then called the police who rescued the two men from the people. They were taken to Shujabad tehsil headquarters hospital, where doctors treating them said that one of the men had 10 fractures and the other had eight.

They said the two men were, however, out of danger.

Police identified the two men as Haji Muhammad and Bakht Ali. They said they recovered illegal weapons from them. They also said they traced more than 20 robbery cases against the two men in several police stations in Shujabad.

In Sialkot, police arrested two robbers after a two-hour chase. One of the robbers fled away. Hajipura police said they received a call that three armed men had entered Muhammad Yousaf’s house at dawn.

They said they had locked the family in a room while they looked for cash and valuables. One of the family members, however, informed a neighbour, who called the police. On hearing the police van approach, police said, the robbers tried to flee but a police team chased them. The robbers, police said, shot at them several times and the police shot back.

Two of them, police said, ran out of bullets. Police then shot at the tyre of their motorcycle and arrested them when it fell. However, their accomplice fled away on another motorcycle.
