of people . There are humendous problems facing muslims of the sub-continent : grinding
poverty hunger disease lack of education moral degeneration ,and so on. They should focus their attention and energies on a crusade against such problems and tell people what guidance Islam offers in this respect . Stop acting as moral police and manufacturers of fatwas.
@Sania: In India any person of any faith can marry anyone. You just have to register yourself a month in advance in order that you may be given time to think it over again. Then a month later sign the register in front of the registrar and witnesses. What do you mean by muslims cannot marry. Saif is very much married and so are many muslims to Hindus. Pray how are you going to stop the marriage? Hope that makes sense!

It was something more than 5000.In north india (which is most populace) people dont even go for intercaste marriage leave interfaith marriage.Interfaith marriage means communal riot.Its almost all unimaginable. @Nitish: It seems that the Taliban ideology of bigotry is also affecting a small section of the Indian population. I must support gp65 and inform you that your kind of thinking is in the minority. Indians have only let Religion into their lives as a guiding principle and not the be all and end all of existence. India is a shining example of coexistence between religions, races and ethnicities for centuries, not likely to change because one citizen feels otherwise. Indians will always repel and reject a Taliban like mindset from people of any religion, without bias or prejudice. This is reflected by its standing in the comity of nations.
Nikah is considered marriage in islam. Its the rule in islam for any muslim couple to be married. It has got nothing to do with taliban or anything like that. What the maulana said is correct in the rules of islam. If saif wants to be married in this way, then it is his personal choice not to follow islam. Therefore this marriage in islam views are considered not valid. Only valid in the eyes of law but not religion. Since saif mentioned that he is a muslim, this issue came out.. Whether he is a muslim or not, only God knows.

No-one had asked for Maulana's direction - so it is unclear how this became his job. Incidentally when he describes a marriage that is CLEARLY valid legally in India as a joke - he is speaking against the Indian constitution. But freedom of speech allows him to get away with that as long as he does not try to force his archaic views on the couple. As far as letting him live - well I am not aware of anyone having issued a fatwa against this mullah - al that people are doing is to criticize him for poking his nose where it is not needed.

The bride's mum is a Catholic, and her dad a Hindu - the groom's mum is a Hindu, dad was a Muslim. Groom & bride are of different faiths, and as adults have decided to join in matrimony. What business is this of anyone else? Whether the bride and/or groom decide to chnage their religion, is also their own business - no one elses!
And such marriages happen among ordinary Indian citizens - not just the celebs. I personally know friends, where the couple are of different faiths - in fact many of them have two wedding ceremonies, one for each faith, so double the fun! And most of the priests / pandits / maulvi's add an extra explanation of the ceremonies so guests from other faiths can understand what's happening.
This guy probably didn't get invited to the fun and hence is sour at the couple.

As far as people saying that KAreena would now try to bring Hindu influence in the household, people should realize his mother was a Hindu from the great Tagore family.
Well, if you declare yourself a Muslim, like Saif does, then you have no choice but to atleast follow the bare minimums of religion. In Islam marriage between Muslim and Hindu is NOT allowed and this has nothing to do with Taliban'isation or anything. The cleric just mentioned a fact. If one claims to be a member of a religious faith, one needs to follow its rules and practice it as ordained. Its like joining a club and following its rules and regulations, otherwise your membership is revoked. Disobeying the diktats of a religion is not freedom, its more akin to rebellion. By the way, we all "indulge" in the "freedom" of disobeying the religious edicts, even in Pakistan, day in and day out, with complete immunity, thanks to the busy Satan. This is not something exclusive to those living in India !
Well thats a valid point that if they were already living together, than where was the cleric than with his comments. This marriage is just a formality and if it is allowed as per the Indian laws than who has given the cleric authority to say such things.
There is a lot of difference between a Muslim who is just a Muslim by name and a practicing Muslim which majority of the people nowadays do not realize or differentiate.

Maulana is talking sonesense. Interfaith marriages were very common in Indian high society. Now trend has crept to middle and educated classes. Thousands of muslim girls are getting married with hindu boys and muslim boys are doing the same. In Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Jordan, Muslim males marry Jewish and Christian girls and nobody gets upset. They would marry hindu girls too, but they are not available in those countries.. When a couple loves each other, no one and nothing can stand between them.
Why should only women convert ? Why not men ? Oh..keeping their Moghal legacy alive....Sad thing is that people of this mentality live in India and dragging a community down day by day .
