LAHORE:

Justice Khalid Mahmood Khan of the Lahore High Court on Friday directed the Lahore commissioner to personally visit Shah Jamal Road and ensure that the area is cleared of mounds of dry earth dug up for the Bus Rapid Transit System on Ferozepur Road.

The judge was hearing a petition filed by a resident of Shah Jamal Road, Amjad Ali Qasim, who had complained of the increasing pollution due to dust from the BRTS construction site, as well as vehicular pollution as a result of traffic diversions placed for the BRTS.

The judge directed the commissioner to assign a deputy commissioner the responsibility of ensuring that the area is kept clean, and to submit a weekly report in this regard to the LHC deputy registrar. An assistant advocate general assured the court that the orders would be complied with.
