RAWALPINDI: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (JCSC) General Khalid Shameem Wynne on Thursday emphasised that stability in Pakistan is directly linked with the security situation in Afghanistan.

While talking to a high-level delegation led by Italian Chief of Defence Staff General Biagio ABRATE, who called on him at the Joint Staff Headquarters in Chaklala, Wynne said that Pakistan is fully supportive of an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process.

According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the matters related to professional interests and mutual cooperation came under discussion during the meeting.

The overall situation of Afghanistan was of particular focus during the discussions, ISPR said.

General Biagio Abrate appreciated the role played by the people and the Armed Forces of Pakistan specially the efforts in fighting terrorism and thereby stabilising the geo-strategic situation of the region.

On his arrival at Joint Staff Headquarters, General Abrate was presented a guard of honour by a tri-service contingent.
