Improving sports, recreation facilities: Lawrence College to get a grant of Rs20m

Students displayed a series of performances, from physical drills to gymnastics and karate.

Lawrence College Ghora Gali will get Rs20 million to better its sports and recreational facilities. The grant was announced by Prime Minister Raja Ashraf at the college’s 152nd anniversary on Thursday.


PM Ashraf said, “We are proud of Lawrence College, a premier institution of the sub-continent, known the world over for its glorious traditions and high standard of education.”

Students displayed a series of performances, from physical drills to gymnastics and karate.

Clad in red, yellow and navy blue, the energetic participants received applause from the audience. The ceremony was attended by parliamentarians, alumni and parents of students currently studying there.

PM Ashraf on the occasion stressed on the need to inculcate pluralism, tolerance and moderation in the youth. He urged educational institutions and universities to enlighten their students on current challenges, particularly the radical mindset.

He also called upon academia, intellectuals, religious scholars and students to play their role in the development of a moderate society. “I know that this is a long drawn-out battle but we are committed to render every sacrifice to protect the country’s soul,” he said.

Punjab Governor Latif Khosa, also the chairman of the college’s board of governors, said that the hallmark of the Lawrence College is not only its zeal for academic excellence but also emphasis on character-building.

Earlier, PM Ashraf distributed prizes among the students who achieved distinction in examinations and extra-curricular activities.
