ISLAMABAD:

With soft music, Brazilian singer and piano player Lilian Mayer captivated music lovers in the capital city on Sunday evening.

The “Brazilian Concert”, that lasted 45 minutes, was attended by 70 people, who enjoyed the music with their eyes closed as Mayer’s fingers danced on the piano keys. A little boy, who was among the audience, could be seen playing the piano with his fingers on his chair as the maestro played some soothing tracks.

“I love how the Brazilian embassy encourages people to come and familiarise themselves with their culture, it is very important to strengthen ties between the two countries,” said a visitor.

Mayer, who flew in for her very first performance in the city, shared the classics of Brazilian music with the attentive audience besides telling some interesting stories about the songs she performed during the event.

Speaking on her career choice, Mayer said she had led choirs for children, female choirs and four voices adult choirs as a choir conductor. I love to teach people who want to discover their voice, as I believe that singing or playing an instrument allows one to master a language without borders, she said.

Well-known across the world, Mayer started learning the piano at the age of seven. As a composer, choir conductor, singer and arranger, she took part in the choir staging operas, such as “Dido and Eneas” (Henry Purcell), “La Traviata” (Giuseppe Verdi), and symphonic pieces including Beethoven’s 9th Symphony and Haendel’s “The Messiah”.

She also developed a solo career as a Brazilian popular music singer, besides researching on Brazilian folklore.
