KARACHI:

After a 37-year hiatus, the Master’s programme at Karachi University’s Area Study Centre for Europe will be started in the next academic year beginning in 2013.

The centre’s board of studies has approved the curriculum of the programme. Admission forms for the programme will be available once the annual admission cycle of the university starts.

The centre began offering the programme back in 1974, but it was withdrawn after the first batch graduated in the following year. The new Master’s programme will be spread over four semesters and take two years to complete. Students will be required to take compulsory courses on Italian, French and German languages in the first semester.

In addition to core subjects, new ones such as Europe and Multiculturalism will be offered.

Prof. Dr Moonis Ahmar, the centre’s director, said that offers for admission would be made on the basis of an aptitude test and interviews. Around 50 people will be made offers for admission.
