FAISALABAD: Academic competitiveness is the driving force of in modern economies.
This was said by Zia Batool, the Quality Assurance director general at the Higher Education Commission said on Sunday. She was speaking at a ceremony organised to launch the Pakistan Entomologist (PE) website at the Video Conference Room of the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (UAF).
Batool said the UAF had a major part in evaluating agricultural journals in Pakistan. She said the Pakistan Entomologist (PE) was a competitive journal. She congratulated the PE editorial board and said it was the first journal of the kind in Pakistan.
She said other UAF departments too should encourage students to write quality research papers. She said there were some flaws in the evaluation process of the journal that needed to be rectified.
She said that at the Saudi government’s request, the HEC Quality Assurance Cell had prepared a draft policy on a quality assurance mechanism that would be presented in the forthcoming OIC meeting in Jeddah on October 6 for approval.
Earlier, PE Editor-in-Chief Prof Jalal Arif acknowledged the contribution of his predecessors.
He said they had broadened the journal’s readership by getting international reviews, website updates, and online submission of research papers. He said the scientists from USA, Turkey, Jordan, UK, Australia and Korea were now eager to publish their research endeavours on the PE website.
Hakim Ali Talpur, HEC Quality Assurance deputy director, apprised the participants of the quality assurance mechanism. He said he hoped that in view of the significant quality improvement, the Pakistan Entomologist would be placed in a better category soon.
Department of Agri Entomology Chairman Prof Anjum Sohail, Assistant Professor Dildar Gogi and web developer Qamar Nawaz also spoke on the occasion.
