Top-seed Aamir Atlas Khan claimed the $12,000 CAS International Squash Championship in style as he thrashed Farhan Mehboob in the final at the Mushaf Squash Complex in Islamabad.
Pakistan’s top-ranked Atlas bagged $1,800 prize-money too after he overcame Mehboob 11-8, 11-5, 2-11 and 11-3.
The win, according to Atlas, has given him a timely bout of confidence leading into major events in the US where he will be appearing in three tournaments, including the US Open.
“This win is very satisfactory for me as I had just returned to the court after being ill,” Atlas told The Express Tribune. “I’ll be leaving end of this month for the US and hopefully the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) will be sponsoring me.”
He added that he is looking to win some tournaments to improve his ranking which has been going down because of his failure to take part in events.
Meanwhile, Mehboob said that he and Atlas had talked to PSF President Tahir Rafique Butt about the sponsorship issue and they were happy with the response they received.
“Butt was very welcoming as he promised to help even from his pocket and that motivates us,” said Mehboob.
