MELBOURNE: This is with reference to Tazeen Javed’s article “A woman’s clothing is her own business” (September 18). Many people in the country seem to think that women in Pakistan have never been coerced into dressing in a particular way. This is a fallacy. There were many instances during the Ziaul Haq regime when women were forced to wear chaddars against their wishes. I remember being forced into wearing one when going to college, otherwise we would not be allowed to enter the college premises.
