Interior Minister Rehman Malik seems to be in hot water again over his alleged dual nationality status.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked Malik’s counsel to produce the renunciation certificate issued by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) and sought a fresh record of his election as a senator from the Election Commission of Pakistan by October 2.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry questioned Malik had been elected on the new renunciation certificate.
The minister’s counsel Anwar Mansoor told the bench that Malik ceased to be a British citizen after May 29 this year. He added his client had applied for the renunciation of his UK citizenship on April 25, 2008, but the UKBA did not immediately respond. The CJ asked him if he didn’t find it strange that his client paid the required fee for it this year.
The chief justice directed authorities to issue notices again to parliamentarians holding dual citizenship, but who have not appeared before the court so far.
The case was adjourned till October 2.

He resigned - changed the law - got him relected once again under new law! now why hed has to do all this if he really had surrendered UK citizenship?
Even he surrender citizenship, He will still have indefinite visa to live in UK, and regain nationality by spending a year again in UK! But given his and his master nature, they will love to put courts efforts down!
So when he points finger at foreigners for all the troubles of Pakistan what is the direction of that finger?
Dear SC. cannot u leave this poor soul.
go after all violators of law.
Looks like it will eradicated Extremism, Poverty and other problems we are facing; Hats Off SC!
Imran Khan's silence on the critical issue of whether to allow dual nationals as public officeholders in Pakistan is criminal since he is product of & accomplice of Rehman Malik.
Is he fool to surrender his UK nationality?
While hundreds of Pakistani civilians are dying each day and the country is main target of terrorists the PCO CJ has nothing better to do except continue chasing the elected leaders in their last months after completing more than four long years. Once a person has filled out renunciation fee and application for the citizenship the citizenship is renounced. If the foreign immigration authorities take time in issuing the certificate that does not mean the application was not filed. It was the job of the election commission headed by a sitting judge of PCO SC to check with nomination papers in the first or second time. CJ has no time for UNO, or Asghar Khan case, or even to give verdict on Baloch disappearance but has all the time for politics.
Why SC takes ages in making decisions, If Dr.Rehman Malik fails to show proof in his support, SC should give decision. What about a leader of one party with dual nationality running party from London? is it allowed? any suomotu? Fact is that NRO implementation took them nearly 3 years, 7000 NRO cases against terrorists and criminals are still in pending. People have big expectations in SC. People want JUSTICE should be done without any fear. Justice delayed is justice denied.
All terrorists have seen the justice. All innocents have been given relief, all outstanding cases have been resolved. Now is the time to take up some non issues.
And the circus continues.
