'Formation of Suddle commission equivalent to distorting judicial history'

ISLAMABAD: With a review petition filed against the formation of an investigation commission headed by former police official Dr Shoaib Suddle, business tycoon Malik Riaz appeared at the Supreme Court along with his counsel Zahid Bukhari on Tuesday and asserted that constuting the commission was equivalent to distorting the history of the judiciary.

Speaking to the media outside the court, Bukhari said that the plea has been filed on the basis of “apprehensions” and that his counsel had reservations with Dr Suddle heading the one-man commission because of the “social and family relations Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and the police official enjoy.”

He said, “The chief justice was invited to Suddle’s son’s valima ceremony, while Dr Suddle was a ‘special guest’ at Dr Arsalan Iftikhar’s wedding. This goes to show the ties between both the families.”

“What else do you call family relations?” questioned Bukhari, while further saying that Riaz was invited by neither Suddle nor Justice Chaudhry.

He posited that it might be a “tough job” for Suddle to carry out investigations.

Riaz’s counsel, while stating that the commission was constituted when the case was in its final stages, said that Riaz’s family was being drawn in without any reason. “Arrest warrant was issued for Ali Ahmed Riaz, while the property seized was that of Bahria Town – is this how justice is done?”

“You cannot leave someone remedy-less, where should Malik Riaz go for justice?”

Bukhari said that the formation of the commission was illegal and that it will give other’s a chance to quote this case when “they are not satisfied with a certain individual or organisation investigating their case.”

    @Sonya if you are grown up as big as the size of Arsalan Iftikhar, your respected dad has nothing to do with the crap you pull in daily life.

    If you are clean, you would be very much happy to face a neutral guy like Suddle for any investigation. If you are shying away, and want your employees at NAB to investigate you, it proves you wrong from the beginning. Where there is smoke, there is fire.. Remember Haqqani, “I lost my BB”, “I don’t know where my BB is”, “I lost the pin”. Seriously ? You guys think you can fool sane people ?

    Justice to others through NAB and FIA. Son’s justice through subordinate judges and family friends. What a great justice-salute judiciary.

    Well ET deleted my comments once again so lemme try to repost

    1 – Ppl who are saying Suddle is relative of CJ plz provide proof or atleast mention what relation he has.

    2 – If Riaz has nothing to hide why does he care who investigate?

    3 – By his own admission Riaz had tried to influence the SC via bribes paid to Iftikhar Arsalan, he has come forward because despite paying the bribe decisions have not come out in his favors, so why is the guy who admitted bribing is still free?Recommend

    It would have been better if the CJP appointed himself as the head of the one man commission. It’s sad that people like “S K Afridi” and “Sarmad Hassan” still justify his corruption. The political party scp (supreme corruption party) is going down and its about time that the workers of the party realize this. Down with corruption, be it the CJP, Army Chief, President or PM.Recommend

    What kind of sick joke these judges (supposedly the experts in constitution) are? Next time a killer or a terrorist would say that he has lost faith in police and agencies, and Supreme Court would readily give him a one man commission of his choice. Imagine, Justice Khawaja Sharif as the commission for the trial of Mumtaz Qadri, or Lal Masjid Imam for Malik Ishaq.

    @Sarmad Hassan:
    You are totally clueless. This particular case is about Arsalan Iftikhar to come clean. There are serious charges against him, and he has to be proven innocent, or if he had the blessings of CJ and Registrar Supreme Court, who was gladly making reservations for the business trips of the crown prince of judiciary. In this case, there are no charges against Malik Riaz, so your entire argument makes no sense.

    @Afzaalkhan:

    Son, Let me try to explain your questions to you.

    1 – Ppl who are saying Suddle is relative of CJ plz provide proof or atleast mention what relation he has.
    No one said he is a relative. He is a close family friend.

    2 – If Riaz has nothing to hide why does he care who investigate?
    The case is not against Malik Riaz. There are serious charges against the crown prince of judiciary, and he has something to hide. And he does care who investigates, and his father has successfully maneuvered to bring in a very friendly chap to give him a clean chit

    3 – By his own admission Riaz had tried to influence the SC via bribes paid to Iftikhar Arsalan, he has come forward because despite paying the bribe decisions have not come out in his favors, so why is the guy who admitted bribing is still free?
    Ask the Supreme Court why he is free. If the CJ puts him behind bar, he will acknowledge that he indeed accepted bribes. This is why Malik Riaz is being tried under Contempt of Court.

    @S K Afridi:
    It is this gutter politics, why pakistan is in such a mess. Instead of the CJ coming clean on the corruption of his family members, he is maneuvering to appoint family friends and brotherly judges as the investigators of the case. And people of the likes of Afridi use name calling to silence the voices of sanity and dissent.

    “constuting the commission was equivalent to distorting the history of the judiciary.”
    Riaz Malik and his lawyer must be naive. They don’t know the history of SC of Pakistan? It has been dark and dubious and this is nothing new and not too many people are surprised by the actions of PCO CJ who reminds us of the worst reincarnation of Gen Zia.
