Violence against women: Teen attacks mom over alleged affair

Husband said he did not know why his son had attacked his wife.

RAHIM YAR KHAN: A 14-year-old attacked his mother with a hoe in a village near here on Saturday because he suspected she was having an affair. Doctors at Shaikh Zayed Hospital said that Ghanvar Mai, 45, had suffered a broken arm and severe head wounds. They said she was critical. The son, Zafar Jabeel, was handed to the police by neighbours in Abdapur village. Jabheel told The Tribune he had tried to kill his mother because she had an illicit relationship. Mai’s husband Yaqoob said that he had been away and neighbours had told him of the incident, after which he had brought her to the hospital. He said he did not know why his son had attacked his wife. Investigation Officer M Akram said that they would get Mai’s statement once she regained consciousness. No FIR has yet been registered.
