LAHORE:

A delegation of the auto engineering sector, under the umbrella of the Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts and Accessories Manufacturers (Paapam), has left for Frankfurt, Germany, to attend the Automechanika fair being held from September 11 to 16.

52 Paapam members will be part of the official delegation, and 26 exhibitors from 13 Papam member companies will be exhibiting their products at the event. Exhibitors are hoping to fetch large orders, running into the millions of dollars, from their participation in the event. They will also meet with existing clients.

The delegation will also study and calculate future potential at the mega event. Delegates will meet with different international counterpart associations, fair organisers and major technology and raw materials providers present at the event.

Paapam Chairman Syed Nabeel Hashmi, while addressing delegates and exhibitors at a pre-departure session, said that participation is part of the association’s strategy to introduce international markets to its members; providing them an opportunity to forge new alliances and business ventures, besides introducing to the world the true commercial and manufacturing diversity of Pakistani companies.

He said that the Frankfurt Automechanika is the largest exhibition in Europe for auto parts, which caters to the entire European market.

“We plan to enhance exports and exceed the $120 million barrier [the current share of the sector] this year,” he added.

“This is the biggest auto show in Europe, and authorities should take intense measures to increase participation of our auto sector by 100%,” said Hashmi. The chairman also expressed a desire that the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan enhance its support to the engineering sector.

Automechanika is a meeting place for the automotive sector and presents the entire process chain in the automotive aftermarket: from point-of-sale services, to recycling and waste disposal. As the world’s biggest trade fair for the automotive aftermarket, the Automechanika spotlights innovations and solutions in the fields of parts, systems, tuning, workshop equipment, bodywork and paintwork, car wash, information technology and management, and the latest automobile services.
