Land for homeless: DCO orders registration of applicants in Rahim Yar Khan

Directs officials to educate farmers about Green Tractors and Drip Irrigation projects.

Rahim Yar Khan District Coordination Officer Syed Wajid Ali Shah said on Friday that information desks should be set up in the district to register residents of squatter settlements.


He was speaking at a meeting with assistant commissioners and town municipal officers.

Green tractors

The DCO reviewed arrangements for the green tractor scheme and directed officials to educate farmers whose application were rejected about the correct way of filing an appeal against the decision.

Drip irrigation

DCO Shah said the target set by the provincial government for adoption of drip irrigation method in Rahim Yar Khan was 500 acres.

He directed the officials to raise awareness about drip irrigation among farmers.

He said the government would subsidise drip irrigation installation for farmers with land holdings between an acre and 15 acres.

Education

The Education Department was directed to hold seminars and walks to raise awareness about literacy day on September 8 (today).

DO (Secondary Education) Muhammad Irshad told the meeting that according to a recent survey conducted by the government there were 125,000 children of school-going age in the district who were not enrolled in any school.

He said the number of children enrolled in schools was 88,000.

Health

The assistant commissioners were directed to carry out surprise visits to tehsil headquarters (THQ) hospital in the district to check whether or not the staff was present on duty.

Commissioner seeks acceleration of transfer process

The Bahawalpur divisional commissioner on Friday directed the officials concerned to accelerate the completion of paperwork to transfer ownership rights to the residents of squatter settlements.

He said the survey underway to update record of residents should be completed without a delay.

Director General (Katchi Abadis) Khaqan Babar said the process to transfer ownership rights among slum residents was underway and that rights would soon be transferred among all residents.

He said Rs172 per marla was being charged from residents for transfer of land in their possession in their names.

DCO Dr Naeem Rauf, Additional Commissioners Malik Muhammad Ramazan, Rana Shahzad Saeed and Shahid Majeed; district collectors from Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalnagar and Cholistan Developmental Authority chairman Muhammad Javed Mehmood were also present at the meeting.
