Results out: Girls sweep top positions in intermediate results

Score more than boys in four out of five groups.

Girls took the top three as positions overall at the Intermediate Annual Examination Results 2012 were announced on Friday with the Punjab Group of College for Women (PGCW) securing two out of the three overall positions.


Girls also outperformed boys in four out of five groups.

The results were announced by Board of Intermediate and Secondary Examination (BISE) Lahore chairman Dr Nasrullah Virk at the Examination Hall at Lawrence Road.

Amina Riaz, a student of the PGCW, secured the first position overall with 1,029 marks. Muhammad Umer, a student of the Government College Univeristy (GCU), and Zabreen Tahir, a student of the Kinnaird College for Women (KCW), tied for second position with 1,028 marks. Fatima Khurshid, a student of PGCW, stood third with 1,027 marks.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Virk said that the entire BISE staff had worked hard to ensure that the results were compiled on time. He said the results were compiled with help from the Punjab Information and Technology Board and with the guidance from the Higher Education Department. He said both the matriculation results and intermediate results had been released on time.

In all groups, except commerce, a girl secured the highest marks.

In the pre-medical group, Zabreen Tahir, a student of KCU, topped with 1,028 marks followed by Maryam Tahir, a student of the Unique Higher Secondary School for Girls, Wahdat Road with 1,024 marks. The third position was taken by Sarah Arif, a student of KCU, and Aimen Anwar, a student of PGCW, with 1,021 marks. Amongst boys, Zamad Gillani, a student of GCU, secured the first position with 1,025 marks while Ahmar Saleem, a student of the Punjab College of Science, secured the second position with 1,017 marks. Awais Raza, a student of GCU, stood third with 1,016 marks.

In the pre-engineering group, Amina Riaz, who also secured overall top position was first followed by Fatima Khurshid of PGCW with 1,027 marks. Afeerah Javed, a student of KCU, stood third with 1,023 marks. Muhammad Umer and Najam Tariq, both students of GCU, stood first and second in the pre-engineering boys group by securing 1,028 and 1,026 marks respectively. Mughees Ahmad, a student of the Punjab College of Science, stood third with 1,022 marks.

In the General Science girls group, Komal Siddiqui, of KCU, secured first with 988 marks followed by Fatima Qamar of the same college with 974 marks. The third position went to Janeeta Raj of the PCGW, who secured 971 marks. All three positions in the General Science boys group went to GCU students. Muhammad Aamir Ayaz secured 961 marks and came first followed by Naeemur Rehman with 954 marks and Rizwan Liaqat with 946 marks.

In the commerce group, all positions amongst boys were secured by the Punjab College of Commerce. Zohaib Siddiqui stood first with 986 marks, Haris Farooq came second with 966 marks and Syed Jabbar Hussain stood third with 965 marks. Among the girls in the group, Afreen Malik, a student of PGCW, secured 964 marks and Khalida Muzaffar, another PGCW student, secured second position with 960 marks followed by a private candidate Mahnoor Fawad with 956 marks.

Girls again outperformed boys in the humanities group with a difference of 32 marks between the third position amongst girls and the first amongst boys. Ammara Yousuf, a student of the Government College for Women, Warburton, Nanakana secured first position with 951 marks followed by Atifa Mansoor of the same college who secured 944 marks. Hafiza Tayyaba Javaid, a student of the Iqra Huffaz Girls Higher Secondary School, Garden Town, secured the third position with 940 marks. A private candidate from Lahore, Waleed Khalid secured the first position with 908 marks followed by another private candidate from Kasur, Muhammad Abu Bakar Ajeeb who secured the second position with 907 marks. The third position in this group was secured by Muhammad Ahmed Shafqat of the Government Higher Secondary School in Okara with 899 marks.

The detailed results will be announced by the BISE on Saturday at the Alhamra Hall. BISE Lahore Examinations Controller Anwar Farooq said the results would be made available simultaneously at the board’s website. He said the results will be made available online after 10:10am. Farooq said students could also get their results through SMS by sending their roll numbers to 80029. The results will also be available through CDs which would be available at all branches of the board and select HBL branches.
