DERA ISMAIL KHAN/ MIRANSHAH: Taliban insurgents clashed with security forces in the restive South Waziristan Agency on Sunday, leaving seven militants dead and over a dozen injured.
Dozens of militants, armed with light and heavy weapons, attacked security personnel during a search operation in the Azam Warsak area of Wana sub-division, security officials told The Express Tribune.
Security forces repulsed the attack and mounted a retaliatory action, killing seven of them and injuring over a dozen more, the officials added.
Roadside blast
Meanwhile, a string of roadside bomb attacks were reported in the neighbouring North Waziristan Agency. No casualties were reported, though.
An improvised explosive device (IED) planted by a roadside in the Datta Khel area went off when a Miramshah-bound convoy of security forces drove past, a security official told The Express Tribune.
Another convoy of security forces was attacked with an IED on Bannu-Miramshah Road in the Gora Qabristan area.
In yet another incident, suspected militants detonated a homemade bomb minutes after a convoy of security forces drove past on Razmak-Miramshah Road. No casualties were reported in the three attacks.
Authorities have imposed a 5am-to-3pm curfew in most parts of North Waziristan to ensure security for convoys of security forces.
Bajaur clashes
Over in Bajaur Agency, nine Taliban insurgents were killed in clashes with security forces on Sunday. Fighting started 10 days ago when dozens of militants crossed over from the Afghan province of Kunar to mount an attack on security check posts.
A security official told The Express Tribune that security forces, aided by the Salarzai peace militia, fought fierce battles with militants in an effort to recapture the Batwar area.
At least nine militants, including a key commander, were killed, he said.

Look who is telling Pti's economic policy is a failed policy? he himself used to be an agent of world bank...which has refused Pakistan to lend money on Major hydro power projects and Coal power, despite knowing that shortfall in electricity is directly proportional to the growth of economy in Pakistan. When Pti first announced it's Economic policy and electronic media and other economist supported it...Many political parties harped that basically it was their own idea. The million dollar question is not how well can an idea be ? but it's implementation is most important and currently all political parties which have failed in every areas be it sports, railways, health, energy, law and order etc.. Which donor agency or country will invest in Pakistan? Can he tell the readers how can he increase the Gdp of Pakistan? I am sure he himself has no idea but criticism is good , but the destructive criticism will only drown Pakistan.
