Twitter alert: The need for interfaith harmony

Published: September 1, 2012

Prayer for peace: People call for an end to hatred as #interfaithharmony trends in Pakistan.

On a day when Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s leader Altaf Hussain warned of how sectarian strife could break Pakistan, and seven men were killed in Quetta for their faith, many people condemned extremism and called for peace.

Many yet took the time to voice their opinions on the social networking site Twitter, protesting against the growing extremism in the society.

Soon, the trend #interfaithharmony was one of the topmost trending topics in Pakistan.

Here are some of the tweets from that national discourse.

People need to stop tweeting and arm themselves because things will probably get much worse. The government is on the side of the terrorists, it cannot be relied upon and a large segment of the population is so bigoted against other sects and religions that it will only understand the language of violence. The only way to save Pakistan is to purge it of terrorists and terrorist sympathizers and to cleanse it of their takfiri ideology.

Its a good symbol that social media activist of Pakistan feel the need to get united on the issue of InterFaithHarmony and condemn extremism with NoToExtremism, At least MQM and his leaders should be acknowledged to take the lead in raising the subject with full force.Recommend
