Fatal encounter: Four killed ‘in shootout’

Police said they were tipped off about the suspects by two men whose car they had stolen.

NANKANA SAHIB: Four robbery suspects were shot and killed  in what Sayyed Wala police claimed was a shootout on Monday. According to the police, the suspects were killed in an encounter that lasted for eight hours. They said the shootout took place at a sugarcane field near Mayee Da Bagh. The police had chased the suspects, who were riding a stolen car, from a post at Mayee Da Bagh where they were signaled to stop but they opened fire at the police and drove away. Police said they were tipped off about the suspects by two men whose car they had stolen. They said the suspects had also tried to kidnap them but they managed to escape. Police said they had yet to ascertain the identity of the suspects.
