CHAKWAL:

A newlywed couple was murdered and then hanged at an intersection in Chakwal on Thursday for damaging the family’s honour.

Police said that Almas Khan and Shamim Akhtar had gotten married about a month ago against the will of Akhtar’s family. Akhtar’s brother, Kabir, called the couple over at his residence on Thursday to settle differences, but as they reached the house, Kabir and other relatives opened fire on them, killing the newly-weds on the spot.

Their bodies were then taken to a major intersection in the area and hanged to instil fear among the people. Police reached the scene and shifted the bodies to District Headquarters Hospital. The police arrested Kabir and are searching for others involved in the murder. The family had earlier registered an abduction case against Almas Khan.
