Pakistani Hindus eligible for ‘long-term’ visa, says Indian official

Amid controversy that Pakistani Hindus who are travelling to India for pilgrimage may apply for political asylum, an Indian government official has said that the travellers are eligible for receiving “long-term” visas.

“So far, no one has applied for long-term visa. Basically, we have norms for the long-term visa. If they apply under them, they will get it,” Union Home Secretary RK Singh was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Speaking in the Indian capital of New Delhi, he was responding to a question on the possibility of India granting long-term visas to those Pakistani Hindus who have come to the country in the last few days.

Most of the travellers have obtained a month-long visa, stating they wish to visit India for pilgrimage.

According to The Washington Post (WP) report, thousands of Pakistani Hindus who have gone to India in the past two decades have still not received Indian citizenship.

“India does not have a national refugee law; it deals with arrivals from neighbouring countries on an ad hoc basis,” the WP report stated.

    @Salim Ansari:

They have to be political refugees. If Muslims come to India saying they are politically discriminated in Pakistan, no one would believe them, would they? But, Hindus are(For instance Hindus can’t even register their marriage nor become PM or President).

For those who say Bangladeshi Muslims also be allowed, again same question. Are they politically discriminated in Bangladesh?

There is a difference between Illegal Immigration and seeking political asylum.

FYI, even Buddhists from Tibet have taken political asylum in India.

Hope your query is satisfied. :)

These Hindus, if they decide to stay, should be resettled in Kashmir, Assam, or certain areas of Hyderabad and Kerala.
It should decrease rioting caused by a certain community by a large extent due to their presence, and since Sindhi people are usually good at business they’ll help the original indigenous communities of these regions too.
It is only fair that when one community of people forcefully takes land away from another, they are made to pay back in some way.

Pakistan and Bangladesh (the Pakistan) were created by Muslims who believed that they cannot stay with evil Hindus.

So logically they should be at home and comfortable in their countries.

Bangladesh is much better off in case of treating their minorities than Pakistan. So the problems are not much with hindus of Bangladesh.

Ask any muslims of Hindu dominated India, if they want to move to Pakistan (or even Bangladesh) – you will have answer.

The way the hindus in Pakistan are being treated, we are ashamed to even think that Pakistanis were once Indians.

India should provide Pakistani Hindus a ‘refugee’ status. They are fleeing from cruel systematic & constitutional persecution in Pakistan.

Muslims of the subcontinent are not eligible for the same, as they aren’t persecuted – they are the persecutors! The only reason they are migrating is for economic reasons.

Srilankan Tamils are persecuted, but India doesn’t have an obligation to provide them ‘refugee’ status, because they are not the victims of a Partition of British India.

Pakistani Hindus were caught up in a political game played by Undivided India’s political leaders – namely Jinnah & Nehru. And India has an obligation to Hindus who were left stranded in a country that was formed as a muslim nation, and relegated them to second class citizenry by law.

This is not less than a consipracy against our homeland and believe me the respect pakistan has showed to our Hindus brothers, will not be provided elsewhere, as they have played the similar role in the development of country as Muslims has played. There is no difference in Muslim, Hindus and Christian, in pakistan.

Its unfortunate that the citizens have to move from one country to another. But after completion of 65 years why people from Pakistan and Bangladesh are migrating to India??? why not people from India are migrating to the land of Pure??? Something has gone very wrong with Mr. Liaqat Ali’s laboratory of Islam. Unfortunately the philosophy of Islam has been distorted so much for self interest of few people that they have lost the real meaning of Islam. We don’t ask you to become secular but at least we expect from the Land of Pure that they practice the real philosophy of Islam , which prophet of peace brought for the masses to make them free from suffering. But seems that some distorted brains are upto converting Land of Pure (which should have been an ideal for all nations to follow) into land of Hell for everyone , including the poor shias . It is unfortunate that the violence against even then is not being able to stop.

Instead of debating on this issue of minorities in Pakistan and especially the Hindus, let it not be forgotten that Hindus from Pakistan are citizens of that nation hence it would be better should the Government of Pakistan look into their problems and grievances and address them in accordance. The Federal Government of Pakistan must try making the systems more accommodating to the Hindus in Pakistan and they be allowed to practice their religion. But, with regard to asylum in India the suggestion is neither viable nor should be encouraged as a practice. The Government of India if need be can in an informal manner take up this issue with their Pakistani counterparts. Bangladeshis moving to Assam in India are without proper documents in other words are illegal migrants to India hence need to be sent back. The same does not apply in case of the Hindus coming from Pakistan. I can simply say that distant pastures always look greener. India has their own problems of overpopulation and unemployment hence accommodating Hindus from Pakistan as refugees may not be a decision that can be considered as very prudent. There are hawks on either sides who will try to en cash this issue and give it a communal dimension in order to create an internal disturbance which will be neither beneficial to India nor Pakistan.

What is happening is nothing surprising. The way hindus & christians are being persecuted in Pakistan, its a matter of time before Pakistani Christians also start running into secular India. As a matter of fact its only a matter of time before the Ahmedis & Parsis also come running into India seeking asylum and India will be the better by taking all of them into its fold. What will remain are the Shias and the next big civil war will be between the sunnis & shias of Pakistan, which will make the partition of 1947 look like a walk in the park.

someone asked ‘what about poor bandladeshis?’. I didnt know that muslims are subjected to religious persecution in muslim nations. Are Bangladeshis converting to hindusism so that their potential killing would be avoided. The hindus are not coming for economic incentives, they want no more religious persecution. Thir men are abducted and their businesses were looted. Their women are forcibly converted and married off. Anyways the 2 nation theory must assure immigration to respective adherents of a faith. Foolish Indian govt must give asylum to hindus from any of the subcontinent, just as Pak and BD must provide aylum to muslims. Sadly no muslim seeks asylum in these 2 nations now. Only terrorists go there for training in ideology and bombmaking.

Those who aren’t Hindus are already coming without visa like Kasab. Btw why do Pakistani muslims want to come to secular India? Kinda puts the very reason for creation of Pakistan in question. FYI, being secular does not mean open immigration.

Indian officials claiming Hindu’s eligible for long-term visa, logically Pakistan government will be in it’s full right to interrogate all Hundu’s upon their return to make sure that they are not returning as RAW agents/if there’s any indication that anyone of them been hired by RAW their citizenships cancelled immediately. Pakistan can’t afford to hv Hindu agents within it’s boundaries.

According to the Washington Post, “Pakistani Hindus who have gone to India in the past two decades have still not received Indian citizenship”. No doubt for those involved, they felt discriminated and rejected. India has soon 1,3 billion inhabitants. One would have to think twice, if one should go and live there and apply for citizenship.

Pakistanis, these visas are only being given because they are our Hindu bretheren. We gave visas to Tibetens because they are from same Hindu/Buddhist culture and religion. We can never give you visa because your culture, religion and mentality is not compatible with ours.

You have your muslim pakistan, you made the choice to have it, so keep it. We don’t need it.

If you need visa, move to gulf countries. Your people may be treated like lower class servants or abed in the arab countries, but you at least you’ll always be grateful to them for converting you to islam.

@Mr Sunny Loni: “So called Secular india. What about poor bangladeshis? why are they being kicked out?”

India has over 5 milin Bangladeshis. Do not compare that to these por 100 Hindu families from Pakistan. Secondly, Hindu boys are being kidnapped for ransom in Pakistan and minor Hindu girls are being kidnapped and forcibly converted. Even your courts are not giving justice in tis matter. Are you sayong Bangladeshi Muslims are facilng religious persecution i Bangladesh and that is why they are coming to India?

Please distinc=guish between asylum due to religious oppression (being faced by Pakistani Hindus) from economic illegal immigration wi (by Bangladeshi Muslims).

To those Pakistanis bringing secularism in comparing Pakistani Hindus with Bangladeshi – you do not know what secularism means. Secularism means state will not distinguish between its CITIZENS on the basis of religion. Neither Pakistani Hindus nor Bangladeshi Muslims are Indian citizens , so any decision made regarding them has nothing to do with secularism.

When it comes to immigration to India, India has every right o determine what parameters of migration. It may allow refugees suffering political oppression (e.g. Tibetans from China and Hindus from Pakistan) and not allow economic migrants (Bangladeshi Muslims). This decision would have no relation to presence or absence of secularism in India since none of these are Indian citizens.

“It’s official recognition of two Nation.Theory.”

How so? I am not aware that Muslims from India are rushing towards Pakistan? In fact it is Bangladeshi Muslims (8 million of them by the way) that are living in India.

In fact 2 nation theory was disproved when so many Muslims stayed back in Indian in 1947. It was disproved again when the concept that all people who shae Islam were one nation in 1971. As communal harmony is taking roots in India (the last communal riots were 10 years back), the 2 nation theory gets disproved on a daily basis. SOme of the people who disprove this theory are
    – Azim PRemji
    – Amir Khan
    – Ustad Zakir Hussain
    – former President Abdul Kalam
    – A R Rehman

Forget 2 nations in India Hindus and Muslims live in the same household as husband and wife in so many cases. You may not know of themany ordinary Muslims/Hindus who intermarry. But have you heard of Madhubala, Nargis, Suzanne Khan (actor Sanjay Khan’s daughter and Hrithik Rosjan’s wife, Alvira Khan (Salman Khan’s sister), ace dance choreographer and movie director Farah Khan as well as Imran Khan’s mpm and Shahid Kapur’s mom are AL examples of muslims women who married Hindu men. Reverse is also true with Amir, Shah Rukh both having Hindu wives. Sharmila Tagore (Saif’s mother) as well as Salman Khan’s mom were Hindu women who married Muslim men.

  • India should allow all Hindus/ Sikhs/ Buddhist of Pakistan and Bangladesh if they wish to come in India, because it is their right to come here. Reasons are -

    a) India is a birthplace of Indian religions and should take care of people belonging to this religion. Not only Pakistani and Bangladeshis but, all people belonging to these religions from all over the globe should be eligible for Indian citizenship which are living as minority in their country and experiencing persecution/ extreme discrimination. Countries with Majority of them (good example Thailand – A Buddhist country) need not be included in such scheme simply because they are happily living in their own country.

    b) Pakistan was created on the name of Islam hence Muslims should not be allowed at all. They have fought with us and have got their Land share so now we don’t care for them no matter what happens to them. But we are sympathetic for Non Muslims seeking asylum in India.

    c) Hindus/ Sikhs/ Buddhist from Pakistan and Bangladesh are particularly most welcome in India because they are victims of partition. Similarly if Indian Muslims/ Pakistan wants Indian Muslims to go to Pakistan they can, and we are OK (rather more than happy) if Pakistan restricts Indian Non-Muslims to come to Pakistan.

    4) Be very careful while granting long term visas or Indian citizenship otherwise all India will be flooded with Muslims of p\Pakistan and Bangladesh and might become Islamic Republic soon just like Pakistan.

    5) We can not afford anymore to be fooled by Anti Hindu pseudo secularists. At the same time we should be fooled by Hindu extremists also t (who are present very less in number actually.)
