The PML-N’s shenanigans

Published: August 7, 2012

ONTARIO, CANADA: One had some respect for Khwaja Asif before he stooped so low that he ended up accusing the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust of financial mismanagement, completely disregarding the good this organisation has done for the poor of the country.

Clearly, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has lost its nerve in the face of the surging popularity of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. I must say these accusations were in absolutely poor taste and if one had any respect for PML-N leaders to start with, their shenanigans have assured that they have lost all of it now.

    Agree with you Doctor Sahab..Khwaja Asif was one of the respected leader among the PMLN ranks…he has background in finance…he should have done at least some due diligence before coming out with accusations like this…certainly sad.

    You said…………One had some respect for Khwaja Asif before he stooped so low that he ended up accusing the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust
    Since when Shaukat Khanum and Public funded projects became so Sacred that they became Religion and unquestionable.????. Do you know Shaukat Khanum is a public funded institute not a property of Some person and anyone can raise if they see any irregularity in it Also do you know that the largest funders of SKMT are actually the people of Punjab and most of them belong from PMLN. Sharif family donated the land for Shaukat Khanum for your information. Also do you know that 2011 balance Sheet of Shaukat Khanum mysteriously not made public. Also PTI is using Shaukat Khanum in Elections and when you exploit such institutions for political mileage then you will feel the wrath. Just see the Link. It is the official link of PTI and they are using Shaukat Khanum logo for their official web page in election campaign which is shameful thing in every manner.

    The issue with Khawaja Asif’s press conference was that he was not trying to protect extremely valuable public institution (which in Pakistan are very few) but in order to potentially damage repute of their opponent he played with lives of poor by creating doubts in the minds of donors, plus he does not know even basic ABCs of the mechanism of financial transactions, what to say of endowment fund, money laundering, and gambling (which were categorically refuted by Imtiaz Hyderi as well).

    As for those who are anxiously awaiting Balance Sheet of 2011, please revisit earlier years, and they will get to know that SKMT publishes Balance Sheet around Oct/Nov every year.

    I did not know Pakistan is Kingdom of King Nawaz Sharif, that if his Government donates a plot for welfare project, they claim it that it going from their own kitty…..well, they sure do use Government funds like their personal looted wealth…but whole kingdom thing is new for me….thanks for teaching a new thing.

    I hope sanity prevails in PML-N camps, and they try to focus of their achievements in Punjab Govt where Education and Energy are also within realms of Provincial Govt after the 18th Amendment and subsequent amendments.

    Awans: It stops being “questioning a public charity” when you accuse them without any basis. At that point it becomes slander and a purposeful attempt at disregarding a well-known and loved public charity.

    @Salman:

    Infact Imran Khan and SKMT are equally playing with the lives of patients by involing a public funded institute in politics for personal goals of Imran khan. who has authorised IK to or PTI or SKMT to use this hospital for political purpose. Its a public trust which should be kept out of politics.
    Kh. Asif has done a bad thing, no doubt……..but Imran Khan, PTI and SKMT managements is no lesser evil in this.

    Imran Khan should not have given prominence to PTI office holders in the fund raiser for SKMCH at Lahore. Let us all, including IK keep this noble institution out of politics.

    @Sane Voice.
    To you involving in politics means, taking credit of achievement? If that is the case, then who is taking credit of Motorway and Yellow Cab Scheme?

    Your intellect compared Khawaja Asif and SKMT…..well, I rest my case, as there is no point in arguing who believes that SKMT is evil, even when there is no precedent of such an institution in the whole world, and even a layman knows that in Pakistan this could have been done by only IK or Abdul Sattar Edhi…no one else!

    @Malik:
    I think you are taking this line from Kh. Asif’s remarks. Doctor Faisal Sultan from SKMH has already refuted these allegations since he is almost always present on these occasions and doing the actual presentations. I don’t know how many from the PTI political leadership were there but at least SKMH management representatives were there and that’s what matters the most.

    The logic Mr.Sohail has given in his letter, not to criticise the financial
    mismanagement in SKMT is absurd and is against the non-profit
    financial management rules.
    If a charity organisation is doing good for poor people, it means not that
    its become above the law, controll and criticism. And specially if someone is
    using these organisations in favour of his political ambitions.
    Last but not least to run a charity organisation & a country higer public
    offices is totally two differnt things, that needs different capabilities.

    “People of Punjab donated for SKMH and they belong to PMLN. Sharif family donated plot for SKMH.”
    I am sorry sir but comments are stupid. Nawaz don’t own punjab and it’s people ( he may be your owner)and plot of Sk was a public property it wasn’t Nawaz sharif’s private property.
