Faisal Raza Abidi demands Chief Justice's resignation

While hurling fiery allegations at Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Faisal Raza Abidi on Sunday demanded a resignation from him and other judges who were reinstated under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).

During a press conference in Islamabad, Abidi held Justice Chaudhry responsible for the alleged financial impropriety done by his son, Dr Arsalan Iftikhar.

The senator said that if the chief justice does not tender a resignation, then he will “force him out from the same way he had been restored as a judge.”

“He [Justice Chaudhry] says that he did not have any idea where his son got all that money from…I ask, when the case emerged, did you ask him where he got Rs900 million from?”

The senator produced bank account statements of Dr Arsalan and said that the person who used to “work under somebody else” now owns billions of rupees. He also showed that the billing address mentioned was that of the Chief Justice House in Islamabad.

“You [Justice Chaudhry] are to be blamed for this. This happened right in front of you. You cannot pretend to not know anything. Who gave Dr Arsalan the right to use government’s property for running his own businesses? Could he not rent out an office in some other area?”

He said that he would now “personally” investigate about Dr Arsalan’s assets and will also fly to Dubai and London to inquire about his international bank accounts. “I will probe into the accounts he has activated under the name of mamu.

Abidi said that the Parliament is supreme and is above other institutions.

“Parliament forms laws and constitutions. Who gave you the right to criticise and meddle in its affairs?”

“I accept your challenge in the war you have waged against the parliament. But mine is not a war of arms, but is a war of words, because Pakistan cannot afford agitation at this moment as it is already going through tough times.”

the judiciary’s act of striking down laws passed by parlimant is too much. this is a judicial coup and a bad precdednt. I don’t think the chief justice is doing any good to the country. he is after the executive while he ignores thousands of cases of ordinary citizens. judiciary has to do a lot of work and it is better it stays away from overpowering executive.
Also, his removal of elected primeminister was unwise and a bad precdeentRecommend

Kudos to Abidi for telling like it is. Imp points here:
PCO CJ is the chief provider of justice and has taken high ground by taking the case of his son himself.
CJ may not be fully aware of his son’s money making operations but when he was charge sheeted by Gen Mush for corruption, Arsalan’s corruption was a big charge there.
CJ got himself entangled in this case not the govt. In addition he testified in SC that his son is poor and homeless. This is perjury and punishable by long jail term. Once again a head Qazi is doing it all for his son, whose main job is to provide justice. People know that politicians are shift characters but not the CJ, especially who does not stop talking about Islamic equality and justice.
I myself had supported CJ’s restoration on principles but not for a dictator who had become the biggest supporter of terrorissts and kept ambushing the elected govt. PCO CJ had a long inning and is on extension after retirement. For the sake of a fair trial he should stay aside and let the justice take its course. With Choudhry in the chair it is like Sharif investigating PML-N’s attack on SC.

100% agree….Everybody has the right to question the credibility of CJP, if he/she has solid evidence against him. Why do you defend this man, who is out to free Pakistan from it’s all ills and doesn’t know about the corruption that has crippled his own house? I ask simple questions, how Arslan got admission in Medical College, having passed the intermediate examination in C grade? How did he get into FIA, and why did he prefer FIA having MBBS degree in his hand? Why did he quit FIA to run his own business? How could he own assets worth Rs. 900 Million in a short period of time???

CJ has no moral stand to stay even a second on his seat ,it is not because his son is involved in currupt practice but has made the SC a ground of Noora-Kusti . He is adament to toppel a govt. which is commited to root out terrorism from the region and cooperating the internationa forces for the peace in Pakistan so that withdrawl forces in 2024 can be realized . The unstability in Pakistan will certainly delay the process which will not in the national interest of Pakistan and regional peace . CJ is a self centered man , he is not even respecting the constitution and hard earned democracy of the country .

If we see that material or text of his press conference, we must agree what he said but if you see his own character “I resepct Zardari as my father, or Zardar is a father of all Pakistani Awam” then “If I am murdered, my body should be covered with PPPP flag” not Pakistani. Such nasty statements create NAFRAT against him.
Some allegations are those which Gen. (R) Musharraf included in the charge sheet which was not taken into consideration. It seems time proving the Musharraf’s charge sheet must be interogated by the juidiciary counsil to declare him innocent and orders reinstate as Chief Judge rather than Jalsay Jaloos, million of rupees spent plus wastge of time.

Abidi should realize that every Pakistani owes his life to CJ who installed a complete system of Justice from Khyber to Karachi never seen before in Pakistani history. We also must understand that sometimes super heros like batman and superman also use illegal ways to target enemies so if Arslan targetted Malik Riaz what is the problem with that? Faisal Raza Abidi’s charges are too serious to be swept under the rug and require an independent investigation. In fact, Justice Chaudhry and his supporters should insist on such an investigation to clear his name.

What we do do know is that for several months, Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry of Pakistan knew that his son was on the take from a notorious property baron Malik Riaz Husain, and yet he did nothing to stop his son’s illegal activities. Mr. Chaudhry was too busy waging a much-needed jihad against corruption by other powerful individuals through his suo moto actions.

@Umar, can you mention one action of the current pcoed judges which has resulted in any good. In terms of hurting Pakistan, there are literally 100s of examples. To start they destroyed the privatization process and now the steel mills has caused billions of dollars of losses (far more than what it is worth). They sabotaged the copper mine project. They released 100s or terrorists. They are sitting on billions of rupees of tax (stay orders in favor of both a media house and telecom companies). It’s also a fact that Arsalans rags to riches dream came true because of the same telecom companies. Will the judges pay for all these losses? I can go on but you get the picture.

@Aslam: You comment speaks of your bias. I am not a ppp supporter, just a Pakistani and think that all these corrupt people including zardari, Kiyani, ifthikhar should go. This news item is however about chaudry pco so let’s keep focus.

Bravo ABIDI, First i would like to clear that i have no liking of ppp,and no affiliation whatsoever. In Pakistan people comments are always politcally .biased .Very few people think and comment WITH OPEN HEART,and being neutral.

PPP is a political party and has not delivered any thing and is accused of masive corruption, but post of CHIEF JUSTICE and supreme court has to be clear of any wrongdoing and their personal character has to be examplery. If chief justice is being alleged for partiality,
correption and exceeding then it canot be condoned and compared with reputation of a political party.
CJ has to answer all question raised by ABIDI or any person who is showing all the evidences also.I also fail to understand if the allegations are wrong why he is NOT TAKING SO CALLED SOMOTO NOTICE AGAINST HIM,whereas he has taken action against RIAZ MALIK who very polietely accused him.ABIDI on the other hand has used very degratery langguage and really ridiculing CJ.This shows that he is purposely ignoring him and cannot face him, when RIAZ ACCUSED HIM REGISTRAR CAME IMMEDIATLY ON TV TO DEFEND
    HIM WHICH WAS UNPRECENTED.

I suggest ABIDI to check and obtain documents of any loan taken by CJ from HBFC,which

Therefore whoever or whatever charges are levelled against CJ, must be addressed and investigation is required. Without any investigation how can you punish Abdi? Remember he is a member Senate. He is not only one who blamed CJ, Reference was sent by ex-president to Judiciary was also based on different complaints and some complainants were related to judiciary. As a matter of principle, already existed judicial commission for such purpose should investigate the matter of Mercedes Car and bills of petrol etc…… We need a neat and clean Chief Justice.
