Blame game: Imran dares Nawaz to a live TV debate

ISLAMABAD:

The blame game between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (PTI) intensified on Friday when Imran Khan hurled fresh allegations at Nawaz Sharif regarding tax evasion and amassing property abroad.

At a news conference, the PTI chief challenged Nawaz to a live debate on any television channel to let the public know who had been involved in plundering the wealth of the nation.

Khan, whose party is posing a grave challenge to the Sharifs in their traditional stronghold central Punjab, posed 11 questions for the PML-N head to answer.

“Come out in public and answer my questions,” said Khan. Of the 11 questions, the most significant was why the PML-N chief didn’t sue writer Raymond Baker who accused him of corruption worth $417 million.

Baker’s book alleged Nawaz of taking a commission of $160 million from Daewoo for a motorway project the PML-N head started during his first stint in power between 1990 and 1993.

Moreover, Khan inquired about Nawaz’s property in the United Kingdom (UK) and the steel mill he established in Jeddah.

“What his tax returns suggest is different from what he has got outside Pakistan…Nawaz Sharif should bring forth a clarification,” said the PTI chief.

Instantly reacting to Khan’s appeal, PML-N spokesperson Senator Pervaiz Rashid said that Khan was ‘gambling’ with the donations that he receives and now that he has been exposed, he should apologise to the nation.

“He has cheated with the nation and hurt their trust in him…instead of getting frustrated he should say sorry to the people of Pakistan,” the senator said in a statement PML-N media office issued immediately after Khan’s news conference.

A default of Rs6 billion from Pakistani banks, construction of sprawling 1,700 acre housing compound in Raiwind and withdrawing money from his and cronies’ accounts before foreign currency accounts were frozen in 1998 were the other allegations that Khan posed against Nawaz.

On Thursday, Khan was accused by PML-N top leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali of evading tax on his income from the cricket matches he played between 1972 and 1992.

Two days before that, another PML-N leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif blamed Khan for ‘gambling’ in overseas real estate markets with the money he received as donation for Pakistan’s premier charity hospital he built in Lahore for cancer patients.

The PTI chief rejected the allegations and insisted that both his tax record and handling of donation were clean of any embezzlement for which he has documented proof.

Raymond Baker will establish corruption if NS sues him so he doesn’t dare. Honesty of IK is above board.

I am supporter of both PTI and PML-N but these kiddish moves will put country nowhere. I have a few questions from IK too:

    1. With these 11 questions, Why IK did to court to disqualify NS? I am listening his claims of 5000 tax for 5 years atleast. What are courts for?

    2. Why IK didnt sue UK newspaper which leaked IK’s secret meeting with US ambassador? (He said on october 22nd that he will sue)

    3. Why IK didnt launch civil disobedience despite calling for it on 30th october, if all politicians do not declare their assets. Who has declared their assets?

    4. Sorry for this question, but will IK accept his daughter ever?

    5. Should we make our charities holy cows? that no one can question their funds?

Disappointed over the response of NS and IK, this blame game will not end loadshedding, corruption etc from the country.Recommend

Imran Khan is living in the paradise of fools, who is loosing votes everyday by merely bullying PML (N) daily and criticizing Nawaz Sharif. When people see Raja Riaz and Inam ullah Niazi having same stance against Nawaz Sharif they feel that PTI is just here to help PPP & Q League. Statements of Zardari, Pervaiz Elahi and sadly Imran Khan have same language. PTI is just focusing PML (N) vote bank thus helping PPP, If this perception got stronger then even Imran Khan wont be able to win a seat for himself. Whatever your political motto is, whatever you think, People hate Zardari much much more than Sharifs. Imran Khans political motives cant make Nawaz Sharif responsible for destruction of economy, industry, institutions, power sector and peace situation. For God sake think and think again its PPP government. For PTI supporters

Bad luck Khwaja Asif. I feel really sorry for you. Lost all the respect just in one day that was earned in many years. My aunt is being treated at SKMT and I know it very well. Shame on you Khawaja Asif and PML N’s politics, and shame on those people who vote for these people. Recommend

First I don’t belong to any political party and not interested in such cheap popularity. While before at an early stage I was hoping that Mr. Imran Khan may be a mature and understandable political worker But with time he proved himself that nature and attitude doesn’t change ever and he is highly immature, incompetent and wasting nation time. Nawaz Sharif Sahab you can’t avoid and should not avoid the allegations. If you do not reply or cannot reply means that you are guilty. So better come on a live debate on TV with Imran Khan like the presidential debates in US. Don’t shy away nor chicken out. It is a do or die situation now. There is not escape. If you try to run away means you have already lost. Good retirement. Mabrook.
