FAISALABAD:

Four people arrested in a sexual assault case were on Friday remanded into Thikriwala police’s custody for three days.

Two of them were arrested on Friday and the others after the registration of an FIR, under Sections 365-B (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel for marriage) and 376-B (punishment for rape) of the Pakistan Penal Code, on Thursday.

The FIR was registered on a directive of City Police Officer (CPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana after the woman filed a complaint against Thikriwala police with his office. She had accused the station house officer, Mazhar Husain Shah, of turning down her application for registration of an FIR. SHO Shah was suspended from duties following the complaint.

In her complaint to the CPO, the woman stated that the suspects had started harassing after the police refused to register an FIR against them.

SSP (Operations) Sadiq Dogar, in charge of investigations, said sexual assault was confirmed in a medical examination at Allied Hospital. He said DNA samples had been sent for chemical examination to a laboratory in Lahore.

The FIR stated that the woman was kidnapped by the suspects, who were her neighbours, on July 20. It said she was sexually assaulted for three days before the suspects abandoned her in a field near her home.

She was found lying unconscious in the field by a passer-by and taken to Allied Hospital. Doctors who treated her at the hospital contacted her family after she regained consciousness.
