President reviews development projects for Lyari, other areas

President Asif Ali Zardari directed officials to complete work on various development schemes in Lyari and in other parts of the city on a timely basis.


He was chairing a meeting on the Lyari Development Package at the Bilawal House on Monday.

The president was informed that water pipelines in most areas of Lyari had been replaced to ensure continual supply of clean drinking water. Meanwhile, two out of the six reverse osmosis plants had also been completed. These six plants would supplement the availability of water and benefit nearly 300,000 people.

Officials informed the president that 19 of the 21 sewerage schemes had also been completed. Meanwhile, 24 major and minor roads had been carpeted, refurbished and repaired, while 19 roads in Lyari were being repaired.

While discussing progress in the field of education, the president was informed that 24 schools had been renovated, while development work on an additional 41 schools was 60 per cent complete.

Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, education minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Murad Ali Shah, Ayaz Soomro, Sharjeel Memon, Agha Siraj Durrani, Nadir Magsi, Saifullah Dharejo, Sharmeela Farooqui and others were also present on the occasion.
