Water shortage in Karachi

Published: July 23, 2012

KARACHI: I want to draw the attention of the water board authorities of Karachi to the desperate position of water supply in the city. In the Gulberg area, people have not received a single drop of water for weeks. One can imagine the vexation of the people of Gulberg, who are compelled to pay exorbitant charges for the water they do not get. I request the water board authorities to take appropriate steps to ease the situation.

The storage capacity in our dams is depleting, there is less water in our rivers hence less water in our canals, recharge to underground water is getting less, no reservoir has been built for the last 38 years, Pakistan is drying up, we are busy tempting fate and relying more and more on the rains, no wonder there is shortage of water in the cities.
