Nato routes reopened: Lawyers continue court boycott

Lawyers said US had not apologised appropriately for Salala check post attack

LAHORE: The Lahore Bar Association (LBA), on the call of the Punjab Bar Council, continued their strike for the second day on Saturday, as a protest against the restoration of NATO supplies through ground routes. The lawyers said that America had not apologised appropriately for the Salala check post attack in which 24 Pakistani soldiers were killed. The lawyers largely boycotted the courts. As a result, a large number of cases were adjourned. They said they were thinking about whether to take to the streets to protest the restoration of NATO supply routes. The LBA members said the leaders had been “disloyal” to Pakistan. The government, said a member, would allow America access to Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal as easily as it had allowed restoration of supply routes. The association’s general secretary Jawad Akbar Gill said the leaders had “sold the country’s honour” for a few dollars.
