KARACHI:

This summer if you were planning to learn skating, swimming or play tennis, it’s time to head to the sports complexes of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

The city administration has set up summer camps at four of its sport complexes, where anyone as long as they are over 8 years old can learn the sports and that too at nominal charges. The facility will run till the mid of July and will be open for everyone, especially children who cannot afford to travel outside the city to spend their vacations.

“We are expecting at least 4,000 people to participate in the [summer] camps,” said Rehan Khan, the senior director of the KMC’s Culture, Sports and Recreation Department. “This has been done to facilitate the public and the charges are nominal.”

The summer camps have been set up at the Badarul Hassan Sports Complex in Nazimabad, Peoples Sports Complex in Lyari and the KMC Sports Complex and Women Sports Complex at Kashmir Road.

Khan said that for the whole duration of the camp, the people can take advantage of the facilities to learn skating and swimming by making a one-time payment of Rs500 and Rs1,000, respectively. “Everyone will be trained in the sports. We have hired coaches for that,” he said.

The camps start at 9:00 am for a three-hour morning session and then again in the evening. “The response has been encouraging so far,” said Khan.
