LAHORE: This is with reference to Feisal H Naqvi’s article “Not in my name” (June 25). I completely agree with the writer that democracy is a process that has to be allowed to continue uninterrupted before it starts working effectively. In fact, I call it the ‘automatic flush system’. Currently, this system is filled with many dishonest politicians and they can only be flushed out if elections are held regularly after every five years, creating space for honest and upright people. Whenever someone sabotages the process, we hit the reset button and the system is filled with the same dishonest lot over and over again.
Repeated acts of sabotaging the elected governments need to come to an end and that is why the disqualification of an elected prime minister, however unsuited to the position he may be, is unfortunate. The solution for correcting a faltering democracy is more democracy. So let us all stand up for a democratic Pakistan.
