The ‘dead meat’ treatment

SIALKOT: Butchers in flood-hit areas are selling meat from animals that were killed in the floods to homeless and hungry people in relief camps, The Express Tribune has learnt.

Locals in several tehsils complained that butchers have been getting their wares from carrion instead of freshly-slaughtered animals. “We know the meat is ruined but food is scarce and people are dying from hunger everywhere around us,” said Fayyaz Khalil, a Narowal resident. Sambrial deputy district officer (Revenue) Malik Abid Hussain Awan raided several butchers’ shops over the past week and arrested nine men  Sadiq, Nasir, Imran, Naeem Shehzad, Irfan, Rasheed and Shezad Ishaq  for selling meat from dead animals.

“They were selling beef and mutton. When we caught them they said that they had reduced the prices, as if that excused the fact that they were selling bad meat to people desperate enough to buy it,” said Awan. Police have registered separate cases against the men.

“People are already sick with stomach-related diseases and others are starving to death. We cannot even trust the food we are being given to keep us alive,” said Samina Bibi, a Pasrur resident.

There is no code of ethics for such unhumain creatures. They can sell even their own children’s flesh. I read a news in the paper saying ‘a butcher was selling donkey meat to the customers’.Recommend

Such butchers should be hanged – without delay. But, unfortunately, those who are supposed to do this are themselves involved in loot and plunder. We are sentenced to being ruled by political butchers.Recommend

A nation like Pakistan should never forget its whole life the miseries they are facing in 2010 followed by those in 2005, – what we are awaiting for? why dont we return to our charisher, Allah the Almighty. Some absolutely illiterate, conciousless and may be satanic entities are involved in inhuman activities, I heard that some people who were not affected by flood and so forth, they are busy stealing goods, food etc.

We as community are organising Fundraising Dinner (Iftaar) at a local community centre, it is of deep interest for the readers that donaters are awaiting for right guidelines, but they are not likely to donate to the government and therefore they deposit their funds into private organisations such as Edhi.

We as Pakistanis are feeling ashamed when we listen to such comments about our country – and I am tired of defending it.Recommend

Just a though – why can’t we just donate without spending money on a dinner??? Must we be FED before opening our wallets? This is a time to just stop spending anything on unnecessary stuff and get whatever we have to the people who need it. There is a need for clean drinking water, tents, and food that can be stored/consumed over a long time period. There are some very credible agencies doing this work. Why can’t we stop creating new groups and parties, and just get our donations to those who are doing a good job? Edhi? Red Cross? UN? Tehrik-e-insaaf, Pakistan Army – all these seem to be getting to the affectees.Recommend

I am sorry to say, but we as a nation are full of bad people. We blame others for all our miseries when we have to look within ourselves to rectify.

No wonders we get rulers like we do, because we don’t deserve any better. Let’s stop blaming others & start correcting ourselves. We should be ashamed to call ourselves Muslims when people like us do these crimes against our brothers & sisters in their time of misery.

In the past few decades, there has been too much emphasis on practice of Islam (Time of Zia) of its rights & rituals & not enough time has been given to understanding Islam & humanity.

Jihad, Namaz, Hajj, Ramadan all the time but no one teaches what is the correct way to achieve all this. Hajj & Zakat from ill gotten money, is that right? Jihad, by killing innocent people in mosques & schools, is that that what Islam teaches us? Fasting but hoarding for profits, will Allah bless you for it?

Think & let’s stop blaming US, UK & the whole world for our ills?Recommend

This is the reason why Pakistan is always known a fraud country in the whole world and that overseas Pakistanis have to bear insults from foreigners. What’s the difference between a non Muslim country and a Muslim country like Pakistan? Now Haram meat is also available in Pakistan. Where is the donation being spent which is given to Pakistan for the flood relief fund, which is in billions of dollars? Where is the food donated by foreign countries to Pakistan? Are they selling the donated food to make additional profits? Such shameless leaders and shopkeepers should be punished, 1000 lashes each day with life imprisonment.Recommend

SICK, SICK and SICK. Sickening piece of news. Any criminal act can be committed in our ‘Land of the Pure.’ We revel in doing and saying the wrong things and we are so non chalant about it, as if there were a golden halo above our heads.

My donations went to credible and trustworthy agencies Khidmat e Khalq and Alamgir Welfare Trust.

Wonder how my stomach will react at iftar.

    Salams to all.Recommend
