KARACHI: The Pakistan Medical Association members held a press conference on Wednesday and presented 13 suggestions to legislators to address shortcomings in a bill proposed by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

PMA Punjab president Prof Dr Ashraf Nizami and others said that the current version of the bill says that post-graduation study in a specialty is not a prerequisite for a medical graduate to treat patients in that particular specialty. For instance, any person who holds an MBBS degree is legally allowed to treat a cardiology, or a gastroenterology patient.   The PMA members also said that tertiary hospitals should be required to have 500 beds, and that PMDC’s website should include the list of complete staff for every teaching hospital.
