A kidney transplant centre would be set up in Bahawalpur at a cost of Rs110.43 million this year, Advisor to the Chief Minister and member of national assembly Mian Baleegur Rehman said on Monday.
He said the provincial government would not start any new project in the health sector in the current fiscal year. Instead, he said, completion of work on ongoing projects and upgrade of infrastructure would be ensured.
He said the ongoing projects included completion of construction of 12 new tehsil headquarter (THQ) hospitals. He said an ambulance service between rural health centres and nearest hospitals had already been started in several districts.
The MNA said Rs80.34 million would be spent on setting up four new operation theatres at Bahawal Victoria Hopspital. He said Rs50 million would be spent on the establishment of a cardiac surgery department at the BVH. He said a recently-constructed 410-bed district headquarters (DHQ) hospital would start operations in the year. He said Rs700 million would be released for purchase of equipments.
