PTI protestors baton-charged, arrested in Karachi

Published: June 18, 2012

KARACHI: Police baton-charged participants of a pro-judiciary rally held by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in Karachi and arrested several party leaders and workers on Monday, confirmed a party official.

The arrested include PTI Secretary General Arif Alvi, PTI Spokesperson Asad Umar and President PTI Karachi Ashraf Qureshi.

The security officials also used water cannons to disperse the rally near Zainab Market, injuring many.

Senior PTI leader Arif Alvi tweeted saying he had also been beaten before he was arrested:

Have been arrested after severe beatings

More than a dozen PTI workers were arrested.

Seven people were injured, including a child, who were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Party chief Imran Khan had announced launching a campaign in support of the judiciary on June 16, with all regional PTI offices organising rallies in major cities and districts.

Alvi is acting a victim for PTI, this ‘wteeting’ is a habitual thingy with PTI folks forgeting that when you severely get roughed up by police you are not able to tweet or email. Remember, poor PTI is going through an internal power struggle right now and must somehow survive this or split into many many versions of PTI.
